This week I met up with Hilary out in Salt Lake City to visit her sister’s family. She booked the flight and handled all the logistics. Initially I was indifferent about the drip - we weren’t going out there to ski but I also hadn’t escaped New Hampshire all Winter. It turns out SLC is trail running destination trip worth making.
With the big winter they’ve had it wasn’t possible to get beyond the foothills. In fact, they received a fair amount of snow on our last day. We stuck to the trails around the city and over the course of five days logged a ton of miles and vertical. Weather was toasty but the dry air certainly helped tame the suffering. As for the altitude, anything over 6k’ we were feeling, especially on the west side of Grandeur.
If you’re heading to SLC in the spring or fall, check out these trails. We missed out on Antelope Island because the bugs were out (I guess that’s something you don’t want to deal with).
Day 1: Grandeur Fun Run
