The plan was to catch up with my friend Joel who recently completed the AT and also cross the fingers for a worthwhile sunset. We left the lot at 2:40 for a 4:30 sunset - more than enough time to get up there for the golden hour. The trail was littered in leaves which meant I would roll my ankle several times on the descent. We passed a few hikers who were on their way down, I knew one of them, only because they recognized Squall, but it was a quiet afternoon in the offseason. At the fire tower it was apparent that we might not get the sunset we hopped for but it was still worth the hike and day off from running.
